100 Rivers: Signals of Repair is an 18-month public art project that launched in Coastal Louisiana and is traveling upstream through communities along the Mississippi River as part of a watershed-wide initiative inviting reflection on our relationship to water. Installed across parks, Main Streets, and cultural sites, the project places 100 semaphore signal flags within the landscape, creating a distributed network of communication carried between body, place, and collective experience.
The May 30 iteration of 100 Rivers was presented as part of Breathing Under Water, presented by DPR Gallery. 100 Rivers: Signals of Repair is also presented in conjunction with Sacred Waters, Shared Future and MR100, two centennial initiatives examining how the Mississippi River’s waters, ecology, management, and use have changed over the last century. Looking ahead to the next 100 years, the project asks a simple question: What is the River saying to us today?
