As a senior in high school, I discovered a deep passion for circular weaving while experimenting with different fibers. What started as a creative assignment quickly turned into a meaningful artistic exploration. The process of weaving—layering texture, color, and rhythm—felt both meditative and expressive. I found myself falling in love with the way each fiber interacted with the others, how the form grew organically in the round, and how it held space in a uniquely gentle yet powerful way.
This weaving piece, created collaboratively, is not just a visual object but a reflection of shared experience and growth. My background in ceramics, particularly working with paper clay, has deeply influenced how I approach texture and structure. Ceramics taught me patience and the beauty of imperfection, both of which I bring into my weaving practice. I see fibers and clay as extensions of each other—soft and hard, flexible and firm—both grounded in the earth and shaped by the hand.
In my art practice, I am drawn to the tactile, the intimate, and the slow. I’m excited by the possibilities of weaving as a storytelling medium and how it continues to connect me to others, to tradition, and to my own evolving sense of creativity.
Make it a great day!
