How to be a princess

Lesson one: Innate exaggeration

(2010)

How to be a princess was an investigation into southern, feminine artifice as both birthright and an appropriated autobiography. Costume and make-up cannot mask the discrepancies between what one is, what one is brought up to believe is the right way of behaving toward others, and what actually happens. The resulting video piece, shown at Orange Skin Design Studio, was born of an exercise in writing, monologue, gesture, expression, audience interaction, and situational reframing.
