How do we move through this?
2026
Step onto the ice. How do we move through this? is a site-responsive performance by interdisciplinary artist and choreographer Victoria Bradford Styrbicki presented as part of Sacred Waters, Shared Future. Performed on the frozen lake at Silverwood Park, the piece uses semaphore-inspired movement to embody signals of grief, repair, and possibility—drawing parallels between the unrest in our waterways and the tensions felt in our communities and society today.
At a time when Minneapolis and the Twin Cities are experiencing deep social and political strain—including heightened federal immigration enforcement and tragic loss of life that have sparked protest and reflection—this performance invites stillness amid noise, collective presence amid disconnection, and shared listening amid conflicting narratives. The choreography encodes a message of care: the grief and loss we carry is just under the surface, whether in ecosystems healing from decades of stress or in communities navigating division and pain.
Gather on Valentine’s Day to witness a dialogue between body, landscape, and the unseen forces beneath the ice, then join the artist for a conversation that invites us to listen—to water, to each other, and to the questions that will shape how we move forward together.
