Water Within

Water Within is a two-year initiative of programs, exhibitions, and community-based research aligned with two moments in history that mark centennial “watershed” transformations for the Mississippi River and its integral waterways and interdependent landscapes and people. We invite you to join us in recoginizing 100 years of water quality improvement with the Sacred Waters, Shared Future campaign, and 100 years of ecosystem, infrastructure, and community repair with MR100.

The question today: What is the River asking us now?

100 Rivers: Signals of Repair

What it is about

In 1926, the Mississippi River was declared effectively dead in the Twin Cities. A century of collective action brought it back to life. In 2026, we celebrate that progress and inspire the next 100 years of stewardship. Join us. Learn More.

Commemorating the 1927 Flood. Imagining the Next 100 Years Together. A House Unbuilt is excited to be participating in this basin-wide series of events, initiatives, research efforts, and creative expressions asking: What have we learned in the last 100 years? What do we still need to learn? What needs to change? And what future do we need to imagine for the Rier and for those who depend on it? Learn More.

By raising 100 hand-crocheted semaphore flags—objects of the water meant to signal intention, support, and distress, 100 Rivers takes this opportunity to listen to the River, listen to you, and send messages between you.

How you can participate

Send and distribute postcards. 100 Rivers is starting a write-in campaign to gather words, pharses, and stories about what you are hearing from the River. What does the River need today? Contact us for a supply of postcards!

Collaborate on an Activation.
