Jane Leverenz is a Windom, MN native. When Jane was in grade school, her mother taught her how to knit and Jane has been grateful ever since. Jane’s skills have been honed by constantly knitting and reading about knitting. Much of her knowledge has been gained by attending knitting and spinning gatherings and workshops around the country, where she eventually taught the classes. Her goal was to teach students to, “Read your knitting!” Her philosophy is: if you know and understand what you’ve already done, you can figure out what to do next; this is a good lesson for life in general.

Jane has knit models for yarn shops in Minnesota, Oregon, and Illinois. She has test knit patterns for designers, knitted items for sale and for family and friends. She has been contracted to knit for the big and little screen. Her knitting has been included in several exhibits with fiber arts guilds Pioneer Spinners and Fiber Artists, and in group shows at art galleries around the state of Minnesota.

Throughout her life, Jane has used knitting to keep herself and her loved ones warm, to express creativity, to meditate, and to escape. She has knit many things: sweaters, socks, hats, mittens, shawls, scarves, afghans, even a mermaid tail.
